CHIMSS is managed by a volunteer Board of Directors, which is elected each year by CHIMSS Members. The 2011-20112 Board is listed below.

Any CHIMSS Member may attend the CHIMSS Board of Directors meetings, which are held several times during each year. Contact the President or any other Board member to determine the time and location for upcoming Board meetings. Tamara Havenhill-Jacobs - President
Tamara Havenhill-Jacobs is the Director of Clinical Application Services for The Children’s Hospital. Tamara is responsible for strategic and operational functions of the EHR and other Clinical Applications within TCH. She has a focus on new and emerging areas within healthcare IT and maintains involvement in regional and national initiatives with a focus on improving care for all patients. Tamara has over 18 years of healthcare experience which includes ambulatory nursing, imaging background and over 10 years of focused healthcare informatics work.

Sarah Sample Reif - President-Elect
Sarah Sample-Reif brings 15 years of healthcare industry experience in the payer, provider and IT sectors. Most recently, she was responsible for the successful launch of the Healthcare Vertical for Kforce Colorado. Sarah’s passion for healthcare, technology, and people creates a natural to working simultaneously with consultants and clients. In addition, she is an active in community service for CHIMSS, CHSM, CMCC, and First Hand Foundation among others.

Joe Bajek, CPHIMS, Past President
Joe Bajek is the Chief Technology Officer and Director of Information Technology for the University of Colorado Hospital in Denver Colorado, a position he has held since 1999.  Prior to that he was the Manager of Data Networks for the U.S. Surgical Corporation (Now part of the Tyco Healthcare Group) and a Lead Senior Network Engineer with G.E. Capital.  Joe holds a B.S. in Computer Science/Mathematics from the State University of New York Maritime College.  He is a graduate of the G.E. Information Systems Management Program, holds a CPHIMS certification (Certified Professional in Health Information Systems – from HIMSS the Health Information Management Systems Society) , a licensed Third Officer in the United States Merchant Marine and an honorably discharged Lieutenant from the United States Naval Reserve.  He currently serves as the Past-President of the Board of Directors for the Colorado chapter of the Health Information Management Systems Society.  Joe has also served on the Board of Directors for the Colorado Technology Association, the Healthcare Sector Chief in the Denver chapter of InfraGard and as a founding board member of the Denver FBI Citizens’ Academy Alumni.

Frank Biondilillo, Sponsorship Chair
Frank Biondolillo is Vice President and Chief Technology Officer for Centura Health. Frank and his teams support 13 hospitals, 7 senior living, and long-term care communities, or a total of over 70 healthcare facilities in Colorado. With 28 years in Healthcare Information Technology, Frank and his team have built a single data center facility in Denver and mirrored the data center at a site in Colorado Springs. Frank applies his extensive experience and vision in leveraging technology across all clinical and non-clinical aspects of patient care. He and his teams are infrastructure focused and responsible for two data centers, data and voice networks, servers, database administration, interfaces, digital imaging, storage networks, the low-voltage infrastructure in new construction, web-based software development and desktop software deployment. His partnership with the Chief Information Officer creates a merger between business and technology. Judy McCarthy, Treasurer
Judy McCarthy is Chief Technology Director for National Jewish Health. Mrs. McCarthy is responsible for the overall design, implementation, operations and support activities for the comprehensive computing infrastructure of the organization. She has management responsibilities for the technology and patient portal teams within IT and coordinates IT technology strategic planning, actively seeking ways to leverage the integration of business processes with emerging technologies to streamline operations. Mrs. McCarthy has over 25 years of HIT (Health Information Technology) experience focusing in technology, applications and IT leadership.  She is very active in regional and national initiatives such as health information exchange and the promotion of patient centric goals and is participating on the HIMSS EIS (Enterprise Information System) committee.  Mrs. McCarthy is the Treasurer for the 2011-2012 Colorado Chapter of the Healthcare Information Management and Systems Society (CHIMSS) board and was President of the organization in 2007-2008. She holds a Masters degree in Computer Information Systems from Regis University, Denver, Colorado and a Bachelors degree in Nursing from Ball State University, Muncie, Indiana.

Marion Jenkins, PhD, FHIMSS - Program Chair
Marion Jenkins serves on the advisory board and adjunct faculty for the Healthcare Leadership graduate program at the University of Denver. He is also founder and CEO of QSE Technologies, which provides information technology services. QSE has completed over 160 healthcare IT projects in 36 states, primarily concentrated in ambulatory healthcare – physician practices, ambulatory surgery centers, imaging centers, physician clinics, specialty hospitals and medical office buildings.
Prior to founding QSE, Jenkins had over two decades of executive experience in many high growth technology and communications companies. He has served as chief information officer, chief operating officer, chief technology officer, VP of sales and sales operations. He has overseen enterprise‐scale IT operations, supporting hundreds of locations, thousands of corporate users and millions of customers.
Jenkins is a nationally‐recognized author and speaker, with over 60 articles and presentations on the role of technology in healthcare and business, and is a contributing author to the MBA textbook, “Business Driven Information Technology,” published by Stanford University Press. Jenkins earned a BS in Engineering from Utah State University, and Masters and PhD degrees in Engineering from Stanford University. He also serves on the Board of Advisors of Bye Energy, a renewable energy and aviation firm.

Todd Panella, Communications Chair
Todd Panella is currently a Systems Consultant with Dell's Healthcare & Life Sciences group. Previous to this position, he was the IT Manager for Desktop Services and NOC for The Children’s Hospital in Denver, CO. Todd held this position since 2009, prior to that he was a Senior Network Engineer with the hospital who helped to architect, engineer and deliver a world class converged voice and data network for the new hospital location on the Anshutz Medical Campus. Todd holds a B.S. in Business Administration in Finance & International Business and a M.S. in Computer Information Systems.

Marilyn Goodloe, Membership Chair
Marilyn Goodloe serves as Director of Business Applications and Integration at Memorial Health System in Colorado Springs, CO.  Memorial Health System is comprised of Memorial Hospital Central, Memorial Hospital North, and Memorial Hospital for Children, as well as ten outpatient services facilities.  In her director role, Marilyn leads a team of highly committed people supporting business, financial, revenue cycle, enterprise, middleware systems and integration. She joined Memorial Health System in 1992 and moved into the role of Assistant Director in 1998, receiving the title of Director in 2002.  Prior to coming to Memorial Health System, Marilyn spent eight years in Dallas, Texas working in the financial and manufacturing industries developing and supporting systems.  She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Houston Baptist University and a Masters of Business Administration from The University of Dallas.  Marilyn has been a member of and participating in HIMSS and CHIMSS events since 1996.  She is a HIMSS Senior and received her CPHIMS certification in February, 2008.  Marilyn held the position of Sponsorship Chair for CHIMSS from 2007 – 2009.

Carolyn Weinig, Advocacy Chair
Carolyn Weinig joined the Innovative Consulting Group Business Development team in January, 2007 as a Director. She has spent the past 4 years focusing on the healthcare industry, including her last position as VP of Client Services for CONNECT. She has been an active member of HIMSS and CHIMSS during those years. Carolyn has over 25 years of business development experience, having worked for IBM for 17 years and smaller software and consulting firms between her IBM years and ICG.

Sherri Hess - Advocacy Chair Elect
Sherri Hess is the Director of Clinical Informatics at Longmont United Hospital. She is responsible for leading multiple teams through all phases of the EHR development from implementation to post go-live and leads optimization of current clinical systems. Mrs. Hess’s has been a Registered Nurse for over 20 years and has been in Healthcare IT for over 10 years. Sherri holds a Masters of Information Systems from University of Colorado-Denver and a Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing from Regis University.

Barbara Drury, Professional Development Chair
Barbara Drury has been the President of Pricare, Inc., a Colorado corporation since 1982. Pricare determines the scope of referral-based consulting services to physicians, malpractice carriers, TPAs, hospitals, and other health care related entities regarding the use of computers in healthcare. Barbara coordinates related service providers as needed by clients. Additionally, she teaches health care workers about automated workflow, electronic medical records, e-prescribing, risk in design or unintended use of computers and HIPAA. She also develops and prepares analysis and presentations of health care data to researchers and managers of health care entities. Barbara hold the status of Fellow as a HIMSS member.

Barbara Kripps, Nursing Informatics Chair
Barbara Kripps, is a Senior Clinical Content Analyst for Health Language Inc (HLI). HLI is a worldwide leader in the development, delivery and marketing of software that reduces the complexity of incorporating medical vocabulary and coding standards into healthcare information technology (HCIT) applications. Ms. Kripps is engaged in custom mapping projects, standardized terminology code and classification updates, as well as creation of content offerings to make administrative codes more understandable to the consumer. Ms. Kripps has previously worked for Thomson Micromedex and has extensive knowledge of mapping drug data to SNOMED CT as well as LOINC. Ms. Kripps is a registered nurse with over 20 years clinical nursing experience in the perioperative setting at a variety of institutes, including University of Colorado Hospitals and Sharp Memorial Hospital. She has a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire and obtained her Masters of Science in Nursing Informatics from the University of Colorado. At the 2008 ANIA CARING annual conference, Ms. Kripps presented a poster presentation titled “Toward Standardized Nursing Terminology; The Next Steps” and wrote an article for the 2008 third quarter Caring newsletter on the same subject. At the 2010 ANIA CARING conference, Ms. Kripps had a poster presentation titled “The Nurse Informatician and ICD-10-CM/PCS”.

Heather Haugen, Academic Chair
Heather A. Haugen, Ph.D, RD
Dr. Heather Haugen has more than 15 years of research experience in Health Information Technology. Haugen’s research experience spans strategies to increase EMR adoption, barriers to physician adoption of new technology, effective RIS/PACS education, and development of telehealth programs for disease management. She has published in numerous health and medical journals, including the Journal of the American Dietetic Association, Journal of the American College of Nutrition, ADVANCE for Health Information Executives and Healthcare Informatics. Haugen holds a faculty position at the University of Colorado as Director of Health Information Technology and is Vice President of Research at The Breakaway Group.

Dr. Jonathan Gold, Physician Member at Large
Dr. Gold is a board-certified pediatrician with 15 years hospital and ambulatory care experience. He serves as Regional Chief Medical Informatics Officer for Catholic Health Initiatives. Previously he served as the physician development analyst for two major vendors, contributing subject matter expertise and assisting in medical application development, adding decision support and content to the electronic patient record and computerized physician order entry application, and meeting CCHIT requirements.

In 2006, Dr. Gold completed a National Library of Medicine post-doctoral fellowship in Health Sciences Informatics at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore, MD. At Hopkins, he received both an MSc in Health Sciences Informatics and a Post-Master’s Certificate in Information Technology and Telecommunications.

Laura Cronin - Secretary
Laura Cronin is an Account Executive with Global Technology Resources, Inc (GTRI). GTRI was founded in 1998, and has quickly become one of the leading high-end solutions providers and technology consulting firms in the U.S. GTRI’s end-to-end consulting solutions address client needs in IT Strategy and Planning, Infrastructure, Convergence, Cyber-Security, Data Storage & Transport, Network Architecture, Systems Management, and Project Management. Our integrated IT solutions help businesses develop their technical architectures, organizations, and core business processes for competitiveness, profitability, and growth. Laura has been with GTRI for 3 years as part of the Healthcare Team working with such customers as Denver Health, Children’s Hospital, Exempla and Boulder Community Hospital. Gerry Furlong, Nursing Informatics - Chair Elect
Gerry Furlong currently holds the position of Director of Clinical Informatics at Centura Health. In this position she leads a 12 member team for clinical informatics to ensure that systems enhance workflow for the endusers. Her prior experience includes healthcare informatics management for the electronic medical record at Memorial Health System. She has been a nurse for 27 years with 5 years in healthcare IT. Gerry has been an active member HIMSS – Colorado Chapter since shifting her career focus from nursing to healthcare information systems. She has held the CPHQ certification in healthcare quality and in 2005 earned a Master's degree in Nursing Informatics from the University of Colorado – Denver Health Sciences.

Marie Medenbach, Board Member at Large
Marie Medenbach is a FHIMSS, PMP and CPHIMS certified consulting professional with over ten years of Information Technology Project Management experience - seven of which directly related to the healthcare industry (payer, provider and supply chain). Most recently, Marie managed and lead project teams in migrating system applications for two major payer (insurance) organizations deploying the use of Facets Managed Care System. She has lead project implementation teams deploying Cerner, Epic, and Meditech Electronic Medical Record (EMR) Application(s) - to include over 35 Outpatient/Ambulatory clinics, 70 InPatient/ICU services, several Emergency Departments, Surgical/Operating Departments, and Urgent Care Facilities. Solid experience with third-party interface systems and Joint Commission and HIPAA compliance regulations. Currently, Marie is working on the HIPAA 4010 to 5010 and ICD-9 to ICD-10 transaction projects, moving from 13,000 billing codes to over 155,000 billing codes.

Dena Campbell, Treasurer Elect
Dena Campbell is a Practice Director for Innovative Consulting Group. Dena is responsible for ICG's Epic client engagement and relationship management, sales support and the growth of the Epic Consulting Practice. Her background includes over 14 years’ experience in the healthcare and technology industry including analyst and project management implementation consulting, pharmaceutical FDA reporting, business development and medical assisting. Dena has extensive experience working with healthcare providers to define requirements and implement technology solutions within hospital settings. She has been involved with the implementation of electronic medical records, having provided implementation management, coordination, planning, execution, system design, on-site support, testing, training and optimization involving knowledge of hospital operations and experience in the full implementation lifecycle of an EMR system.   Dena has a Bachelor of Science in Management/Biology from Metropolitan State College, and an Associates of Science in Medical Assisting.



Donna Dulong, Board Member at Large
Donna is the Informatics Business Liaison for the Colorado HITEC Program, a workforce development program at the University of Colorado Denver, College of Nursing. This University-Based Training grant is sponsored by the Office of the National Coordinator to help educate 50,000 new Health IT workers. Donna has over 20 years of experience in the health IT market, mostly with vendors and professional organizations.  Donna has served on the CHIMSS board since 2008.  She is currently pursuing a PhD at UCD



Daniel Herman, Program Chair Elect
Daniel S. Herman serves as Managing Principal of Aspen Advisors, LLC and assists healthcare providers optimize the value of their information system investments.   Mr. Herman has over 25 years of experience in healthcare information technology strategic planning, design and implementation;   clinical systems planning and patient safety improvement; and, business process redesign. 
Prior to founding Aspen Advisors in 2006, Mr. Herman served as a Senior Vice President at a boutique healthcare consulting firm specializing in physician adoption of advanced clinical systems (Dearborn Advisors), a Regional Vice President in a Healthcare Information Technology Consulting firm (First Consulting Group), a manager in the healthcare consulting division of a national CPA firm (KPMG/Bearing Point), an implementation manager for a healthcare software vendor (McKesson), and a management engineer in an academic medical center (Loyola University Medical Center, Chicago).  His clients have included academic medical centers, multi facility/multi regional Integrated Delivery Networks, large physician group practices, provider-sponsored managed care organizations and start-up technology companies.    
Mr. Herman earned an M.B.A. specializing in Information Systems from the Weatherhead School of Management at Case Western Reserve University and a B.S. in Industrial and Operations Engineering from the University of Michigan.  He is a Fellow of the Healthcare Information Management & Systems Society (HIMSS), served on the Board and as a past president in the Colorado and Greater Chicago HIMSS Chapters and has authored numerous articles and presentations on various aspects of Healthcare Information Technology Management and obtaining value from IT investments.
